Why do we do science? A “radical chemist” by the name of David Nagib says that we do science to further the knowledge of humanity. It is essential for us, as a society, to continue to learn and grow, not just for growth of technology and human capabilities but for the growth as a whole community, for humanity.

Empowering young girls is crucial to help them succeed in future STEM careers. Even something as simple as seeing dolls dressed as people who have occupations in STEM careers is important. Now that’s exactly what is happening. Women who are working in the STEM fields have been refashioning Barbie dolls as scientists!

A sixth-grade student has designed a video game for visually impaired kids. When tasked with creating a science fair project that meant something to him, this is what he came up with for an awe-inspiring reason.
-
This boy has severe hearing-loss and has always loved video games for how visual they are but, he wanted to create a video game for those who are visually impaired. So, he did, he created a simple game that is based off mostly sound and audio instructions to help the player navigate the game.

Have you ever thought about why we teach certain topics at certain ages? Many of us think that young students are not capable of learning complicated topics like biochemistry. Educators have found that younger students can learn more complicated subjects easier than high school and college students can as younger students are more motivated to learn and absorb information quicker.

Many young people in the United States live in situations where they are not given opportunities in education and may be surrounded with things like poverty and violence which can affect their growth and education.

While STEM education is growing and is a great opportunity for all, it is especially important for those who have been less fortunate. The STEM and STEAM field has been a way to offer new and better opportunities to all who go into it with a whole-person approach.

Recently we have seen a big push for STEM education subjects to better prepare children for the future workforce but is that enough?
-
Many times, when students come out of high school and/or college they are faced with a shock, reality. We do not typically see courses or instruction in school on how these students will take what they have learned and apply it to how to get a job or be successful with their degree.
-
While pushing STEM subjects is a great step in the right direction, we need to teach our students real-life skills.

Now that kids have all the answers at their smartphone fingertips, are they really engaging in STEM education?
-
As technology changes and grows, we must change education standards. Memorization, as a way of engagement, is becoming a thing of the past as answers are now always available. Students are becoming more hands-on than ever before, doing and acting on an objective is the new way of connecting and engaging with a subject.

Everyone has heard of STEM education. There is also the term STEAM education (science, technology, engineering, art and math), these are used almost interchangeably but what do they really mean?
-
Many of the states have different definitions and plans for STEM/STEAM education. This is starting to cause issues with the overall goals and plans for the growth of STEM/STEAM education in the United States. There is no funding reward for having this kind of education in a school system. Because of the mixed thoughts on what is important and what certain students are introduced to there is a disconnect and a lack of the importance of the STEM/STEAM education.
-
Standardizing the STEM/STEAM education efforts is key to growing the STEM/STEAM workforce to continue to grow the country.
